Night in Madrid. I don't remember the significance of this building, but the picture sure looks cool.
Roman aquaduct in Segovia. 2000 years old and water still flows. Spain has a lot of cathedrals. This one is also in Segovia.
Castle in Segovia. Makes you wonder if Walt Disney plagiarized?!?!?! Climbing the inner ramparts of a different castle. Spain fought battles for hundreds of years with invading Moors, so most of their cities were fortified.
And when I say fortified, I mean FORTIFIED. These are city walls from Avila. Yes, that's Tricia at the base. Night shot of Toledo's cathedral.
Inside shot of same cathedral. If you're wondering where the world's gold supplies are actually kept, visit some of these cathedrals. The courtyard of the parador we stayed at in Toledo. These state-run B&Bs are often housed in ancient structures. This one was built up against Toledo's outer walls and was about 1000 years old.
Arabic influences brought over by the Moors. This photo was taken at the famous Alhambra Palace in Granada. Toledo was the capital of Spain before Madrid. It was easily defended due to its natural geography at the intersection of rivers.
More Moorish influence. We loved the intricacy and the colors of the tiles and stonework. More of the same.
Before the Moors, Spain was occupied by Rome. Actual Roman tilework being unearthed. Roman coliseum.
From our window in Cordoba, we could almost touch the walls of this ancient cathedral. Same cathedral. When the Moors occupied this city, they built the mosque within the existing cathedral.
Typical white-walled alleyway, replete with verandas and vines, in Cordoba.
